Latest News:

TOAR-II Theme Issue is now published in Philosophical Transactions A, presenting the main scientific outcomes of Phase II (TOAR-II) of the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR).

The Theme Issue provides an updated assessment of the global distribution, trends and impacts of tropospheric ozone, covering its effects on human health and vegetation, its role in climate change, and ozone variability from the surface to the upper atmosphere. It also includes regional assessments and an overview of developments in observations and modelling.

The issue consists of eight peer-reviewed papers, including a comprehensive overview of the TOAR-II assessment and seven papers focusing on specific aspects of global tropospheric ozone.

TOAR-III has been officially launched in Heraklion in September 2026, during the 2026 IGAC conference, with a Quickstart meeting to invite the community to think about the future TOAR-III Working Groups. More information to come. An online meeting to explain how and when to propose WG for TOAR-III were organised the 2nd of November 2026 to introduce the next phase of the TOAR-III, outline the planned activities and timeline, and provide an opportunity to learn how to contribute to this international community effort. If you were not able to attend any of these meetings, you are still fully welcome to participate to TOAR-III.

Document to help identifying WG under construction and people willing to participate to TOAR-III (the document just gathers ideas, don't be shy, even if you're idea is not mature)

Calendar for the WG submission phase:

  • Deadline for the 1st round of WG submission for the application following the guidance and application procedures (see below) - 1st of February
  • Kickoff in May 20-21 2027, Jeju Island, South Korea
  • 2nd round of WG submission - by 1st of July 2027
