Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP) Meeting

Dear TF HTAP Participants,

Please save the date for our next meeting of the Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP) on 22-24 April 2020 in Edinburgh, Scotland.  The meeting will take place directly after the meeting of the LRTAP Convention’s Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modeling (TFIAM) which will be held 20-22 April.

Registration, agenda, and logistical information will be posted in the coming weeks.

At the meeting we will take stock of progress and discuss future plans over the range of the Task Force’s cooperative work.  The main focus of the meeting, however, will be on identifying near term (within 2 years) opportunities and longer term research needs to improve the scientific basis for assessing:

  • The impact of methane mitigation measures on tropospheric ozone levels on regional and global scales
  • The impact of tropospheric ozone on human health and ecosystem damage on regional and global scales

We would like to take stock of work that is going on throughout the international science community to address these issues and to identify where new cooperative efforts under TF HTAP may contribute most.  In addition to working with other bodies under the LRTAP Convention, we hope to have discussions about potential synergies with TOAR, CCAC, AMAP, AQMEII, MICS-Asia, AerChemMIP (and other efforts informing CMIP6), and other relevant efforts. Our goal is to improve the scientific basis for considering these issues should they arise in future international policy negotiations in the next 2-4 years.

If you have suggestions for recent or ongoing efforts that we should discuss at the meeting, please send us an email.

We look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh in April!
